Created in 1952, Cynar is a liqueur that is obtained from an infusion of 13 herbs and plants, the most dominant of which is artichoke extract, famed for its properties that are said to aide digestion. It is a heavily aromatic product, with a low alcohol content (16.5%) that renders it very accessible. Cynar falls into the category of Italian "Amari" and as such is particularly widely-enjoyed as a digestif, served neat or with a couple of ice cubes. For a slightly more modern approach, Cynar can be diluted with tonic water and a slice of orange.
